Leave a comment December 7th, 2009Creosote satchel thingy.... @ 09:13 pmQuite awhile back someone one had posted about some place that sells a kind of satchel i guess filled with dried creosote that you can hang in your shower to kinda re-create that desert Rain scent..does anyone know what store this was? hehe More so..has anyone ever made something similar on their own? I'm not so much wanting to buy one as i want to read the description of it so i can recreate it ( bad I know, but I'm poor)...so anyone try this? anyone know who sells such product so i can get some ideas of how to do it? anyone know if the creosote needs to be dried first or is it better fresh? any opinions would be fabulous:) thanks! Non spoilery (I hope) question reactions to regeneration. @ 10:51 pmCurrent Mood: curious
*I say Non spoilery because I still haven't been able to see Waters of Mars and I'm trying to avoid spoilers for *sniffles* the last two specials/S5* I was posting an answer to a discussion on When your Doctor regenerated did you have trouble accepting the new Doctor? Were you resentful because your Doctor left? Or did you fall just as much for the new Doctor as you did 'your' or 'first' Doctor? britgeekgrrl needs our help (long-time DW costumer) @ 09:34 pmFourth Doctor episode Stones of Blood @ 08:29 pmCan anyone tell me if this episode is the ( maybe spoilerish question ) Why I'd make a lousy companion... @ 07:26 pmMidway through Genesis of the Daleks, the Doctor (as played by Tom Baker) has the opportunity to destroy all of the Daleks in one fell swoop. He has a wonderful soliloquy about whether or not he has the right to destroy an entire species, even if they're the Daleks. If I were there, the conversation would have been a lot shorter: Doctor: holds bomb wires in each hand Dare I have the right? Me: Yup! yoinks wires away from the Doctor, blows up Dalek nursery I suspect I'd have gotten along a little better with Nine... I'm wearing a cravat as I write this. @ 11:49 pmI have just returned from my work's Christmas meal: there was a fancy-dress theme of "any character from stage, screen or book" and there were many impressive efforts from couples such as Shrek and Fiona, Popeye and Olive (and three month old baby as Swee' Pea), and Pooh Bear and A Bee. I was seated next to a colleague's boyfriend: he eventually revealed that with the (black?) suit, trainers, gelled hair and umbrella(?) he was the tenth Doctor and my colleague was Rose. He expressed embarassment at having to walk to the restaurant in such outrageous attire. Given that I had walked to the venue dressed as Noel Coward And His Time Travelling Pinking Shears from the BBC Eighth Doctor Novel "Mad Dogs and Englishmen", I had little sympathy. Edit Also "Rose"'s mum was Matt Smith's teacher Should Teachers Worry About Their Intellectual Copyright? @ 03:00 pmCurrent Mood:

Last week I wrote a blog entry for our district's blog about teachers sharing material. I moaned about the possibility that teachers could share lessons that work with their peers much easier now than they used to be able to, but they don't. It's a rare occurance when one of my peers e-mails me a lesson that worked. Mostly, the teachers in my district, and, I suspect, most districts, labor in isolation. Brilliant teaching strategies might be going on behind their closed doors, but only the handful of students in the class experience it. One of the replies that came back from that blog entry interested me in an odd way. In the note, the teacher said, "I've been asked to share the syllabus we've developed for Comp 11 with other alternative programs. I'm not so keen on delivering this work to other teachers without some protection of the work." At first I was baffled. Why would teachers want to "protect" their lessons? The teacher's sentiment flew in the face of how I think of teaching, which is that it should be a community of educators who want everyone else to succeed, no matter what. This teacher sounded egocentric. Was he worried that his name woudn't be attached to the ideas in the syllabus? What does it matter who created an idea for a lesson? We're all in it together, right? Then it occurred to me that the teacher might want to bundle his thoughts and lessons into a commercial package for publication. That would be legitimate, wouldn't it? It's the American way to profit from intellectual efforts, and lesson plans are certainly in that realm. In my time in the classroom, I have generated way more than a book full of plans, quizzes, tests, lectures, activities and miscellaneous materials. Couldn't I put my work in a book and try to sell it? Well, I might, but my problem is that I have no idea where someone else's ideas that I read or heard end and where my ideas that are so influenced by other people's efforts begin. I'm guilty of a kind of plagiarism every time I open my mouth in the classroom. I get the other teacher's objection. I really do. However, for me, as far was what happens in my classroom, I'm giving it away. Use it. Adapt it. Call it your own. I'm okay, as long as somebody somewhere can get something from it. After all, the idea you get from me probably isn't all mine anyway. EoT icons and wallpapers @ 04:56 pmSome icons and wallpapers for the new special, featuring the Mister Master. He said he wanted to find out what the square root of that was. I asked which child requested the information, and then asked said child, "Have you watched 'Midnight' recently"? They nodded sheepishly. I then had to explain to the teacher what the significance was, as he does not watch Doctor Who. Amazon.com is having another sale! @ 02:50 pmLots of Classic Who included this time! It's a BBC sale, so there's lots and lots of pages. Here's without the 'Doctor Who' filter on. :) *edit, it's .com. Don't know about the .ca site. Sorry~! Clip from the End of Time! @ 06:20 pmFor the first 30 seconds as part of this interview... I need to have my car towed a few miles in-town from my house to a repair shop. As the mechanic will surely be taking advantage of me, I'd rather not also be left alone and weeping by the towman (or towwman; equal right and all). Thanks, all. Radio Free Skaro #171 - You'll Never Work In This Town Again @ 09:16 amA new Radio Free Skaro episode!: ![]() With the Three Who Rule reunited once more, and with the analytic powers of the Third Guy squarely aimed at schedules, Appreciation Indexes and other such numeric minutiae, a slow news week was transformed into quasi-random babble and buildup to the exciting segment you’ve all been waiting for….Douglas Camfield in the Miniscope. Praise for Camfield’s prodigious output was universal if varying in intensity, but all three hosts agreed the man was a force for good (for the show) and bad (for Dudley Simpson’s career.) How could The Master get any crazier? @ 04:44 pmtucson/phoenix shuttle @ 09:27 pmI need to take a shuttle to Phoenix airport later this week. I know of the Arizona shuttle, but are there any others? Thanks. Also I know i could rent a car for a day and drop it at phoenix airport for probably a bit cheaper, but frankly i do not want to hassle with that. please help me out for a school project? :) @ 11:55 pmHi all! My name is Gwen... I used to be a relatively active poster here before college took over my life. But now I'm back and would really, really appreciate your help on a school project that I'm doing. I plan to write a thesis arguing that fandoms (yes, I'm writing a paper on fandoms) mirror in many ways naturally occuring 'folk groups', which are groups like coal miners or German-Americans in Virginia... pretty much any contained group with a shared history and culture. If you'd like to help, please just take a look under the cut and answer a few quick questions about your participation in the DW fandom! Mods, I completely understand if this is uncool, but if this needs to be deleted I beg you to please at least give me time to record any responses I might have already gotten. I hope it's okay that I'm posting this, though, because I chose this com because I remember it being active and friendly. Anyway, that said...
